Prudence's Pottery

All these plates are made out of mid-cal 0 clay (brown clay): Mysterious Blue Black splash on Mysterious Blue in cone 5. The Black turned goldish.

Most of the picture I've ever posted are glazed pot. So, I thought this time I would post some greenware picture. Greenware describes an air-dried pot which has not be fired.

After missing a week of pottery (the studio was closed for a week), I've found a cracked plate. It was a little sad because it was a decent plate. Too bad I didn't run a wire underneath two weeks ago. So, the bottom was still stuck to the bat and the pot was shrinking while it dries. Therefore, this big "S" crack formed. Oh well, at least one of them survived. The good thing is that I was able to make 2 more plates and 2 bowls. And yes, I did run a wire underneath the 2 plates. The 2nd pottery studio had started 2 weeks ago. Haven't been making too much stuff yet. I did make a "square" shaped mug but then I trimmed through the bottom last week. (I haven't done that for a long time....) Oh well, there goes my first "square shaped mug. It was kind of nice too. I guess I will just have to make another one. However, I am a bit bored from making mug, so probably won't see me making a mug for a while. So, what am I making nowadays?! Some plates....we'll see how it goes... Just got a call from the studio the other day, they said the studio it's closed this week. How's disappointing?! Hopefully, my plates won't be too dry to trim next week. Yesterday was the last studio night for the winter session. Time really flies, it seems like the session had only started a few weeks ago. We won't start back again until mid-April, I guess I should use this time to come up with more ideas. Lately, I've been trying to use different techniques to decorate my pots. Last year, it was mostly the 3-colour collections. And after reading Robin Hopper's Making Marks, I came up with some more ideas. I'd tried them on a couple of my pots. The flower pot was sliced with a serrated knife (I meant to use a cheese slicer, but I didn't have one). It's made from mid-porcelain clay and glazed with Randy's red. The 2 small bowls were made out of mid-cal 0 clay and glazed with Randy's red and sponged on black glaze. Unfortunately, the black was probably too thin and doesn't really show.

Out of the 3 major steps (throwing, trimming and glazing) of making a pot, I've concluded trimming takes the most time! I took whole 3 hours of studio time to trim 5 pots. No time to make anything new or glaze anything. Well, I just have to wait until next week then. Only 3 times left for this session, time just flies... powered by performancing firefox

I've been making more pots these few weeks. I managed to finish a bag of white clay I am almost done my second bag (brown clay). I guess this is a really good start of the year!
