A couple more pots for 2007

Pottery Sale 2007

This past weekend was the annual Winter Arts and Pottery Sale at the Nepean Sportsplex and I am delighted to be part of. This also shows that I have been blogging for a year, since my blog was first launched after last year's pottery sale. Time really flies and it has been a year already. This weekend sale was my 4th sale and it was my first time to use the whole table. Richard is very nice and made me two pagodas as decoration (see picture). I had about 45 pieces to the show/sale and met with many nice people. I think the whole event went really well as usual. Thanks everyone who'd come by.

Pottery Sale in two weeks

I am so excited that I will be taking part in the pottery sale again this year. It's going to be my fourth sale and it will be at the Nepean Sportsplex on November 24 - 25. I will have about 40 pieces at the show. Here are some of the new ones: Mysterious Blue & Kermit Green on white clay Mysterious Blue and Black on white clay Mysterious Blue and Kermit Green on brown clay

Greenware

Most of the picture I've ever posted are glazed pot. So, I thought this time I would post some greenware picture. Greenware describes an air-dried pot which has not be fired.

A cracked plate

After missing a week of pottery (the studio was closed for a week), I've found a cracked plate. It was a little sad because it was a decent plate. Too bad I didn't run a wire underneath two weeks ago. So, the bottom was still stuck to the bat and the pot was shrinking while it dries. Therefore, this big "S" crack formed. Oh well, at least one of them survived. The good thing is that I was able to make 2 more plates and 2 bowls. And yes, I did run a wire underneath the 2 plates. So, hopefully, no more "S" crack accidents. Some more pictures (these pots are made from mid-cal 0 clay): Plate glazed with Harvest Gold The same plate with good food. Nice picture from Kevin E. and Yu. Purple mug 2 mugs with glazed with Mysterious Blue and sponged on Randy's Red

2nd pottery studio has started

The 2nd pottery studio had started 2 weeks ago. Haven't been making too much stuff yet. I did make a "square" shaped mug but then I trimmed through the bottom last week. (I haven't done that for a long time....) Oh well, there goes my first "square shaped mug. It was kind of nice too. I guess I will just have to make another one. However, I am a bit bored from making mug, so probably won't see me making a mug for a while. So, what am I making nowadays?! Some plates....we'll see how it goes... Just got a call from the studio the other day, they said the studio it's closed this week. How's disappointing?! Hopefully, my plates won't be too dry to trim next week. More pictures: These two bowls above are made from white clay and glazed with Emerald Green with Denim Blue. Noodle bowls which can hold a pair of chopsticks. They are made from brown clay and glazed with Mysterious Blue and Black sponged on the rim. This mug is made from whit...

Last studio night for the winter session

Yesterday was the last studio night for the winter session. Time really flies, it seems like the session had only started a few weeks ago. We won't start back again until mid-April, I guess I should use this time to come up with more ideas. Lately, I've been trying to use different techniques to decorate my pots. Last year, it was mostly the 3-colour collections. And after reading Robin Hopper's Making Marks, I came up with some more ideas. I'd tried them on a couple of my pots. The flower pot was sliced with a serrated knife (I meant to use a cheese slicer, but I didn't have one). It's made from mid-porcelain clay and glazed with Randy's red. The 2 small bowls were made out of mid-cal 0 clay and glazed with Randy's red and sponged on black glaze. Unfortunately, the black was probably too thin and doesn't really show.

Trimming...

Out of the 3 major steps (throwing, trimming and glazing) of making a pot, I've concluded trimming takes the most time! I took whole 3 hours of studio time to trim 5 pots. No time to make anything new or glaze anything. Well, I just have to wait until next week then. Only 3 times left for this session, time just flies... powered by performancing firefox

More New Pots

I've been making more pots these few weeks. I managed to finish a bag of white clay I am almost done my second bag (brown clay). I guess this is a really good start of the year! Here are some of my latest "creations": Randy's Red with white clay Harvest Gold with white clay Two small bowls: Mysterious Blue and Kermit on white clay Another one with Mysterious Blue and Kermit on white clay

First set of pots for 2007

YEAH! My first set of pots came out the kiln. Special thanks to Doug and Allison at the studio. There's my second sake set. I like the colour a lot, it's Harvest Gold. It has a real Japanese look to it. Last year, I've tried many different glaze combinations. Most of them are 3 colors: 2 glazes with overlap in the middle. I need to figure some new combinations for this year's collections. This is the first one I've tried...instead of 3 colors, this one only has two colours. The whole pot was glazed with Mysterious Blue then dipped a corner with Kermit Green. A little cup with Elusive Green with mid cal 0 clay 2 small bowls with Black all around and Mysterious Blue inside with mid cal 0 clay Mom's new soap dispenser with mid cal 0 clay

First day back in the studio for 2007!

After a month not making any pots, I am finally back to it. I managed to make 3 new bowls which surprised me quite a bit. Since, I usually take a few hours to get rid of the rust (just like playing golf :)) before any decent pots. I've also glazed some pots as well. One of them was the sake container in Harvest Gold. I can't wait to see that one ready. There is also the soap dispenser for my mom. It's Ruth's b-day. Happy Birthday, Ruth! Thanks for the delicious cakes! powered by performancing firefox
